I began working with clay on a part-time basis in 2002. In order to pursue ceramics further I decided to make a career change and gave up my “regular job” at the end of 2003.
In 2004 I was selected for the Craft Council of Irelands Pottery Design and Skills course – a full-time two year course I completed in July 2006. Since then I have been living and working as a potter in Thomastown – initially in Clay Creations workshop and from July 2007 in Earthworks – the cooperative ceramic studio and gallery I established with two other potters.
At the moment I make a range of mostly hand thrown pieces both functional and decorative. My forms are simple and I glaze in a dynamic and spontaneous style. I enjoy using a wide range of decorative, visual and tactile qualities through the interplay of reactive slips and glazes that I use. Smooth matt finishes with contrasting bubbling surfaces give pieces irresistible to the eye and to the touch.
